Land Takeoffs for Claude and ChatGPT
Sitework takeoffs from your plans, inside the AI assistant you already use.
Connect Land Takeoffs, send a civil plan set or CAD file, and get quantities back with the sheet or file each one came from. Then download the Excel bid sheet and PDF summary.
What it does
Plan set takeoff
Reads a stamped civil plan set PDF and returns erosion control, clearing, earthwork, storm, sewer, water, paving and concrete quantities by sheet.
CAD earthwork
Measures cut and fill from existing and proposed surfaces in DWG, DXF or LandXML files. It asks you when a surface or boundary is unclear.
Bid-ready files
Every finished takeoff produces an Excel bid sheet and a PDF summary you can download, share or re-open from your account.
Land Takeoffs reports what the plans show and lists anything it could not determine. It does not guess quantities that are not on the drawings. Review results before you bid, as you would any takeoff.
Connect
You need a Land Takeoffs account. If you don't have one, the sign-in screen creates one with Google, Microsoft or email, and new accounts include 1 free takeoff.

For custom connectors and other MCP clients:
https://mcp.landtakeoffs.com/mcpSign-in uses OAuth. Developers can also use an API key from the account page as a Bearer token.
To disconnect, remove Land Takeoffs in your assistant's connector settings, or revoke it under Connected apps on your account page.
Sending your files
Full civil sets are often 50 to 500 MB, which is more than chat attachments handle well. Land Takeoffs gives you 3 ways to send them, and none of them has a size problem.
- A share link. Paste a link from Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive set so anyone with the link can view, or a direct download link from your own file server. Land Takeoffs downloads that one file in the background.
- A private upload link. Ask for an upload link. The assistant gives you a page where you drop files from your computer. The link works once and expires after 24 hours.
- Your account page. Upload at landtakeoffs.com/gradingiq, then ask the assistant about the takeoff.
You can send a plan set and a CAD file together. They become one takeoff: quantities from the plans and measured cut and fill from the CAD.
Example prompts
A plan set takeoff usually finishes in a few minutes. Large sets take longer. The assistant checks progress and tells you when it's done.
Tools
These are the actions your assistant can take. "Reads only" tools never change anything in your account.
| Tool | What it does | Type |
|---|---|---|
start_takeoff | Starts one takeoff from up to 2 files: a plan set, a CAD file, or both. Uses credits. | Starts work |
start_plan_set_takeoff | Starts a takeoff from a civil plan set PDF. Uses credits. | Starts work |
start_cad_takeoff | Starts a measured earthwork takeoff from CAD or terrain files. Uses a credit. | Starts work |
answer_cad_question | Sends your answer when a CAD takeoff asks which surface or boundary to use. | Updates a takeoff |
get_upload_link | Creates a private, single-use upload page for files on your computer. | Creates a link |
get_download_links | Creates the Excel bid sheet and PDF summary and returns download links that last 1 hour. | Creates files |
get_takeoff_status | Checks whether a takeoff is downloading, queued, running or done. | Reads only |
get_takeoff_results | Returns quantities grouped by trade, with the source sheet and confidence for each. | Reads only |
list_takeoffs | Lists your recent takeoffs. | Reads only |
check_balance | Shows how many credits you have left. | Reads only |
get_upload_page | Returns the link to your account page. | Reads only |
No tool deletes anything. You can delete a project yourself from your account page.
Credits
Takeoffs use prepaid credits from your Land Takeoffs account. A CAD takeoff uses 1 credit. A plan set uses 1 credit per 100 pages. A takeoff that fails is not charged. You buy credits on your account page, never inside the chat.
Privacy and security
- Your assistant only gets access after you sign in and approve it. Access tokens last 1 hour and renew for up to 60 days unless you revoke them.
- When you share a link, Land Takeoffs downloads that file only. It cannot see anything else in your storage account.
- Files and reports are stored in the United States. Download links expire after 1 hour.
- Land Takeoffs does not read your chats. It only receives what the assistant sends to a tool, such as a file link or a takeoff ID.
- You can delete any project from your account page. That permanently removes its files, results and reports.
Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
Support
Email support@landtakeoffs.com with the takeoff ID or project name if you have one.
Common fixes:
- "The link is private." Change the share setting to anyone with the link can view, or ask for an upload link instead.
- "Not enough credits." Add credits on your account page, then ask the assistant to try again.
- Sign-in loops or fails. Disconnect Land Takeoffs in your assistant's settings and connect again.
